How Advertising Statistics Assist Businesses

Advertising Statistics

No matter which area of the market your product belongs to you need to advertise to generate consumer awareness. But how do you know whether your advertising is generating the expected results or which publications or channels to use? This is where advertising statistics come to your aid. Statistics in advertising allow you to make decisions about where and how to advertise and provide a means for measuring campaign performance.

There are many forms of advertising. Some of the most common forms are posters, print, online ads, billboards, and bus stops. Although offline media has been the traditional form of advertising in the past, since the advent of the internet, online advertising is the new buzz word gracing the advertising industry. This is transforming the advertising landscape and resulting in budgetary reallocations to the online space.

With many businesses and professions transforming to virtual storefronts or implementing an internet presence, internet advertising statistics have become an important factor in selecting advertising channels and measuring the effectiveness of campaigns.

Advertising statistics have different degrees of precision. Often this depends on how well you can measure the impact of your add campaigns. If you are running simultaneous campaigns, it can be difficult to assess which form of media is producing the best results. A broad generalization can be ascertained by referring to sales results but this can be less precise than would ideally be preferred.

When the internet first started, there was very little in the way of statistical packages to measure online results. Individuals were less concerned because early adopters could put up a website and face very little competition. Competition has increased in recent years and new tracking technology has emerged in response to market demand. This has introduced new levels of precision measurement. With the ability to track keywords, ascertain the source of the original traffic and measure conversion, advertisers are empowered to refine campaigns to achieve a higher return on investment.

This level of precision exists at the search, banner and keyword level. There is still a blind spot in terms of online branding and product sales that originate from online activities that were not directly attributed to search behavior. Additionally, advertising statistics do not tell you about how many people have bookmarked your site and go on to purchase your product at a future date.

Advertising statistics are a useful guideline for establishing and measuring campaign performance. Without them, marketers and sales professionals would experience a higher degree of difficulty in all areas of business decision making.
